i didn't go to camp as a kid, so when i visited carrie and jac-o today at camp, i had some testing to do. i did the rock climbing-fun, zipline-kinda of scary, and the leap of faith-who invented this thing!?
in case you don't know, the leap of faith looks a lot like the vertical log that mulan climbs up with those weights. i climbed up a 30 foot version of that and considered myself brave to do it. when i got to the top to sit down and bask in my own excellence, the people below told me that i would now be standing up and jumping off. oh, and would i like to count down from three or should my anchor?
let me explain the safety equipment. i'm attached to a sort of belt that wraps around every single which way imaginable, and there's no way i can get out of it. this is attached to a rope and a pulley sort of thing (i think) that eventually comes back down to my anchor, a camp guy named karl. so the idea is that i jump off of this and entrust my life to karl... i'm sorry karl, what's you last name? oh that's right, i don't know it. i'm just hoping that you're a good guy and stronger than you look.
i stood there, positive that i wouldn't be jumping off. but then i did. and karl didn't let me down... well, i mean he DID, just slowly and safely.
it. was. AWESOME.
